TOWN OF MONCKS CORNER, S.C.
The Town of Moncks Corner is seeking a Chief to oversee a Police Department with 29 full-time sworn officers and 3 civilian employees who serve its more than 9,000 resident population. With an annual operating budget of $1.8 million, the Department provides a full range of services to the community. In 2014, the Department responded to approximately 19,000 calls for service.
The Department is heavily vested in community interaction with a strong Crime Watch program, monthly crime prevention meetings for citizens, Victim’s Advocate program, Neighborhood Watch and a very active Community/SRO Unit. The largest complement of officers is assigned to the Patrol Division. Other divisions and specialized units include Criminal Investigations, Narcotic Investigations, and School Resource Officers.
The position is appointed by and works under the Mayor as the Town of Moncks Corner operates under the strong Mayor form of government. However, the Mayor assigns one Council member from the six members Council to serve as the liaison between the Police Department and Council. The current Police Chief is retiring after 40 years of law enforcement service with the last 15 years as Chief of the Department.
The Town desires candidates who have served in diverse and rapidly growing communities comparable to Moncks Corner. The Chief of Police must possess a proven track record of unimpeachable ethics, integrity and honesty and a demonstrated aptitude for problem solving.

The current position is remunerated $61,327 but is negotiable depending on qualifications.
A degree in criminal justice, public administration or a related field is preferred.
Candidates should have at least ten years of law enforcement experience with five years in a leadership position.
Be able to undergo and pass a medical examination, polygraph, drug screen and background investigation.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles.
Must become certified by the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy within a reasonable timeframe.
Graduation from a senior command/leadership program is highly desirable.
