The Public Service Department is responsibles for:
The upkeep of the Town’s landscaping and beautification needs.
As part of the beautification process the staff is constantly picking up litter throughout the Town.
Special landscaping is done seasonal such as the planting of the main thoroughfares coming into Town and flowerpots that are placed along Main Street. Streets are swept manually on a periodic basis.
Right-of-ways are cut and maintained on a regular basis to help keep our streets neat and clean.
Street signs are installed and maintained throughout the corporate limits.
Other duties include removing of dead animals off the streets and right of ways
Installation of flags and banners on special occasions and other duties as assigned.
Our staff is also responsible for putting up Christmas decorations throughout the Town to include pole lighting, Town Hall, the Train Depot, Unity Park for the Annual Christmas Programs and the Lacey Park.
The Town frequently receives complaints about drainage and flooding throughout the corporate limits. Although the Town is not responsible for drainage, ditches, streets and pot holes, a coordinated effort is made with Berkeley County and the SC Department of Transportation Maintenance Department to help keep ditches and streets maintained and to address these and other matters for our citizens.
